Assessment Title – Viva (Oral presentation)
LEARNING OUTCOMES –
LO1 – Effectively evaluate the solution (with stakeholders where appropriate).
LO2 – Understand and conform to the principles of professional and ethical behaviour in a practical context.
OBJECTIVE – The aim of this task is to review the whole group parts of the module. You should (i) highlight and discuss your personal individual contribution to the project and (ii) evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your “functioning” as a team. Your findings will be presented in a oral session, followed by questions (total up to 20 minutes). Please follow the structure provided in this Task specification. Since reflecting upon and learning from experience is so important, this part of the module is weighted (see study guide for more details). The presentation will be made in front of an audience of tutors and fellow students.
DESCRIPTION – There are four stages to this viva process.
A. Review your contributions to the project (technical appraisal)
B. Review your performance as a team (process appraisal)
C. Produce and upload your slides (see Study Guide for deadlines)
D. Give your presentation (see Study Guide for deadlines).
You should try to be as constructive and professional as possible. Review and evaluation are not restricted to negative comments. Please feel free to point out good practice, wise decisions, etc.
Remember criticism should never be aimed at individuals but rather at processes, events and decisions. This task is not an opportunity to air grievances which in the first instance should be raised with your tutor.
You should prepare a presentation to last up to 15 minutes with a further 5 minutes available for questions and discussion.
In order to provide more structure to your review please organise your analysis to explicitly address the following questions. You may cover additional issues if you want.
(A) For the personal contribution each individual member of the group should address the following:
i. What aspect of the project you mostly contributed?
ii. Describe (diagram/flowchart) the approach/model/etc used for your contribution.
iii. How good was your contribution?
iv. Are there further (technical) steps or changes you could take to improve your contribution?
(B) For the Process Review for the project:
v. How the interface between the different contributions was defined?
vi. What two pieces of advice would you give a new team starting a group project?
You will receive credit for insight and honest analysis. You will receive even more credit if you can think of improvements to your own practice. Remember this task is all about reflection and evaluation.
