Read the assigned book, Out-of-Control Criminal Justice, and write a scholarly book review.
For this assignment, you must cite at least five peer-reviewed articles, not books, in your review. You may also cite books, but you have to cite at least 5 peer reviewed articles. The articles students cite should be relevant and timely (e.g. no older than say 2010, unless they are considered to be ‘classics’). Your scholarly book review must be between 2,250 to 2,700 words without the cover page or references. For this assignment, you need to do more than merely provide merely provide a synopsis or summary of the book. Rather, provide a scholarly analysis of the book and explain what, if anything, it contributes to our understanding of criminal justice policy. The purpose of the five articles is to help in your critical analysis. Here are some examples:
- Do other authors agree or disagree with the main issues you are analyzing from the book?
- Are there alternative explanations for the main issues presented in the book?
- What should have been added to the book to make it better?
- Would you recommend the book? If yes to what audience?
